Super Readers!

October 11th, 2017 · No Comments · Uncategorized

In Birch we have been looking through lots of different information texts.

We have been answering questions based on the information in the fact files. We had to read through the fact files very carefully to make sure that we extracted the correct information.

What did you learn from your fact file?

Special Delivery

October 9th, 2017 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Today in Birch class we had a special delivery from the postman.

We have received a special letter from a pair of superheroes that are going to visit our school. These visitors will be coming into school on Thursday 19th October to complete Superhero Training with us.

We would like to encourage all the children in Year 2 to come dressed up as their favourite superhero. This can be a known hero or it can be a hero that they have created themselves.

Do you know which Superheroes will be visiting us?

Superhero Visitor

October 4th, 2017 · 2 Comments · Uncategorized

We have had an exciting day in Year 2. We were lucky enough to be visited by a Superhero.

We watched a News Report about a robbery that had taken place, which told us that a superhero was heading to

St. Augustines.

We prepared lots of questions, making sure that we included our Question Marks.

We loved asking our visitor all of our questions. We are going to use all of this information to help us write our own reports.

What question did you ask Supergirl?

PE Challenge.

October 3rd, 2017 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Today in P.E we were carrying on from our last lesson. We had already worked hard on our hopping, skipping and galloping. Now it was time to begin the next set of challenges. Today we worked on:

-Hopscotch

-Pivoting

-Side-stepping

Initially we found these quite challenging. However, with lots of practice and feedback from the teacher we have begun to get better.

We had to think very carefully about where we stood for side-stepping, making sure we were aware of the space around us.

Hopscotch required a lot of concentration as we didn’t want to mess up the pattern that we were creating.

Addition

October 2nd, 2017 · No Comments · Uncategorized

This week in Year 2 we have started to look at developing our understanding of addition. To support our learning we have been using place value charts and dienes to allow us to see the concrete representations of the numbers that we are working with.

By the end of the lesson we had managed to get almost all of the questions right. We were on fire!

Can you use the strategy that we have learnt to help you find the answer to these questions?

Beech Break-in

September 29th, 2017 · 1 Comment · Uncategorized

Today in Birch class we became heroes when we had to take care of Beech class. An arch enemy of one of our superhero friends came into school and broke into Beech classroom. They left it in a real mess.

The culprit left evidence all over the classroom.

We explored the mess that had been created and wrote a list of all of the damage that we had found. We wrote down as much information as we could so that we can report on it next week.

What would be a good headline for this incident?

Superhero Dilemma

September 28th, 2017 · 1 Comment · Uncategorized

Today in Birch we were given a selection of Superhero missions that we had to complete. We created dramatic representations of these missions in order to help us solve them.

We worked in teams to decide how we would solve the dilemma whilst taking a moral stance.

Can you remember what your mission involved?

Holding Out For A Hero

September 22nd, 2017 · No Comments · Uncategorized

This term in Year 2 we are focusing on all things Superhero! Some of the children in Birch have really been enjoying the role-play area within the classroom.

After exploring the Superheroes Den, this prompted a discussion about what heroes look like. This made us think about whether all heroes wear capes and masks. Birch Class came up with a number of heroes that aren’t always recognised for the things they do.

– Ambulance Workers

-Nurses

-Doctors

-Police Officers

-Firemen

-Teachers

Can you think of any more everyday heroes?
